Good times

Like I said. Good times!. I am very glad that Carlitos seem to be much more at peace. We are doing homework right now and he is more receptive at night than during the day. probably because he is tired by now and has no strengh to argue. Either way is pretty good.

His reading is improving little by little and he is writing much more!!, that is incredible compared to a month ago and the struggles he was having doing this. Now he is willing and trying to write. We are doing everything we can to help him out and not stress him too much.

As behavior goes he has been remarkably under control. Even when a boy was aggressive with him here at the house he came to me very calmed and told me what happened. the boy got a time out and carlitos moved on from the situation. I was very impressed. he is doing much better.

Now the challenge will be Spring. last year at this time is when hell broke loose and he went downhill, at school and home. Exactly after Spring Break he came back to school different and did not stop until he started meds. Spring break is in 2 weeks!! and the weather is getting to the 80's which means ALLERGIES and that is half of the problems.

We are back

I guess I took a longer break than expected!!. Things have been going pretty well actually. My last post was about a Gamecube and to my surprise he has handled that amazingly well. No arguments or begging about it. looks like his weight is under control. we are working very hard on him making good choices, so far so good.

He has been taking his medicine every night and seems to be doing good on it. We had a final IEP. It went very well. He is getting more OT and no speech anymore. Finally he is done with that after 8 years of therapy!. He got some more accomodations including resource time everyday. He has never done resource but is helping a lot this time.

I feel hopeful about him, we are about to get to Spring Break and history has showed this is the time when he "breaks" I think has to do with Spring allergies (really bad) and the heat. I will be setting him up the best we can. It should be ok.

Game Cube

Yesterday, a friend of ours gave us a Game Cube system for the kids. We have been very successful in avoiding game systems. The whole idea has been to not have obsessive behaviors with video games. We know that he loves them and it was better not to add more stress.

But...it made its way in. Last night when I turned it off to go to bed he had a full meltdown!! all the way. Today he had a rough time coming back from school. I was trying to go over some rules about the GC but he was desperate trying to use it. After much begging he finished his homework and he was able to play. After that, he followed directions pretty well.

He has been good. Tomorrow I have the final IEP, I hope we can make the right changes fro him. I'll be posting what happens. He went to bed right away and was very calmed down.
Something else we are working on is his weight. I am buying better choices for him. We hope he can stay active.

Up and down

I guess the best way to describe him right now is up and down. Sometimes he is on target and doing good and then just in a few hours he crashes in his behavior. School is getting very hard and is pushing him more and more behind. I am having an IEP this Friday, I hope we get some solutions.

Today he had a full meltdown at night over a Game Cube a friend of ours gave us today. I turned it off at bedtime and he totally melted hitting his head against the sofa. It took a while to calm him down. Finally I told him we needed to go over the rules tomorrow. I hope he can handle having a game.

Other than that he is doing good.

Food and more

This morning he did good. Last night I heard him get up around midnight and when I got up to check he was fully dressed for school (??) I still don't know what that was. He does not do any of this kind of behavior.

He got ready for school just fine and as far as I know he did good there. I had a talk about food with him since he has been gaining weight lately. He listened and followed direction. He loves junk food and is hungry all the time!! We have to figure out how to control that.

He had Karate tonight and did very well. He loves it and I don't have to beg him to go. As he moves on in belts it gets more and more difficult. It is good for him.

I have an IEP coming up this Friday. Today I replaced some of his homework with 1st grade work. He did good.

Hard

Today was a little hard. He has been acting very stubborn and inflexible. Getting stuck on anything he does. A project or game. I tried to work with him but it was pretty hard. It was a busy day since we had church and a Superbowl party. I don't think he had any extra stress over that. he was excited that a friend was coming over.

By the time bed time came he was rough in his answers and took a while to convince him. Last night I had him read out loud and I was very impress with how little he can read. We have to practice more. We'll start tomorrow.

Finally he is sleeping and I'm hoping he feels better tomorrow.

Dr Appointment #3

Here we are. A new follow up appointment. The very first thing she did was to put him on the scale and there it was ! 5 pounds heavier!!. In 1 month he went from 70 to 75. It could be a growth spur or simple eating like a horse since he got on the medicine. Don't know yet.

As behavior goes the Dr was very pleased. I discussed with her the school situation and she was ok with all that. He seems to be doing good and stable.

Today was a busy day preparing for a Superbowl party tomorrow. He went to the store with me and did wonderful, later I took the girls out and he stayed doing projects with dad. He had a good day. Sometimes bothering his sisters but as soon as we would distract him he would stop.

He is doing great..
